Cancer Awareness at the Ballpark

Nurses, doctors and others specializing in gynecologic oncology helped raise ovarian cancer awareness to a new level in St. Louis with a presentation to a packed house at Busch Memorial Stadium.

SGNO board member Joann Gurerrio, and Dr. David Mutch of Washington University and Barnes Hospital, were among those enjoying the special day at the ballpark.

The sponsoring group was SLOCA, St. Louis Ovarian Cancer Awareness, which arranged for a large block of tickets that drew the medical community, patients, and families and caregivers to an afternoon game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds.

Pre-game ceremonies took place as about 40,000 fans were finishing their noontime hot dogs and getting settled into their seats for the start of the game.

They had something extra to cheer about as SLOCA leaders showcased a cancer awareness quilt. The quilt project was launched under the leadership of former SGNO board member Judy Parham.
