Welcome to the Society of Gynecologic Nurse Oncologists
The SGNO is entering its 30th year as an organization dedicated to the advancement of patient care, teaching, and research as to best practices in the treatment and management of gynecological malignancies. The SGNO is the only organization specializing in gynecologic cancers and the many aspects of caring for the women affected by these malignancies.
As we continue in our 30th year you will see many changes. One of which will be an updated Website. Our immediate Past- President, Lynn Cloutier has graciously accepted the position as our Communications Chair and is currently working with web designers to re vitalize & revamp the current site. So please look to the future for these changes.
The SGNO is for GYN oncology nurses with all levels of experience, from the nurse new to the field to the nurse practitioner with many years of caring for this specific population. Our goal is to provide education for everyone no matter where you are in your career. By providing this very special group of nurses the latest in research, best practice, and evidenced based education we hope to prepare you the GYN Oncology nurse with the tools needed to better care for our population served.
We are currently planning the 2013 Symposium and there are plans to offer something for everyone, from the nurse new to GYN Oncology and chemotherapy regimens to the “seasoned” nurse practitioner. As some of you may know the 2013 symposium will be in Chicago. I have had communications from many of you as to the timing of the symposium and how it coincides with Spring Break in many areas of the country. I have heard your concerns and they have become our concerns. As part of the evaluation for the 2013 Symposium that question will be addressed. We will ask for your opinions as to the best time for the conference and do our best to take that into consideration when planning future symposiums. This is your organization and we wish to make it possible for as many of you as can to attend the annual symposiums.
As mentioned above we (the Board of SGNO) take into consideration your wishes gathered from the evaluation summaries and use this information to plan our symposiums. So just a “heads up” for 2014, it appears very possible that the 2014 symposium will be in San Diego.
The Board of SGNO appreciates you as a member and would like to thank you for your continued support. We want to hear from you when you have questions, ideas, or suggestions as to how to enable us to be of even more value to our members.
We value the members we currently have and we hope to grow our membership over the next year. We decided at the annual board meeting to have a “Membership Drive”. For our members that recruit 4 new members they will receive 1 years’ membership free. So “Go Forth” and recruit.
I am excited and honored to represent the SGNO for 2012 – 2014 as their President. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with thoughts, suggestions, out of the box ideas. The SGNO board and our members are a team dedicated to providing the best possible care to women with GYN malignancies.
