Welcome to SGNO
As the 25th Society of the Gynecologic Nurse Oncologists Symposium this year was coming to a close, we were also entering a new era with expectations of adding to the history that was celebrated at the conference this year. We are an organization that is rich and responsive in so many ways. We have a history that will allow this organization to promote gynecologic oncology nursing to even higher levels of networking, promoting education, and maintaining high professional standards for all of the members. The celebration of our organization should continue for some time to come! During the keynote presentation, we heard Dr. Boronow and Dr. Major proudly speak of their involvement in the early beginnings by including gynecologic oncology nurses with the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists. This was an opportunity from its inception to include all aspects of the clinical care of the gynecologic cancer patient and forge a partnership that has continued to thrive over the years and will continue to provide new opportunities for rebuilding collegial support with Dr. Burke, the new president of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists. A grand highlight of the past 25 years has been the number of clinicians and peers that have made the commitment to continue the mission as it was established for the organization. These past clinicians and leaders had a simple goal of making a clinical difference through positive achievements throughout the years. As Mary Lou Cullen spoke of these members that she walked so closely with over the past years, there was a sense of pride for all of the many accomplishments and goals that were achieved in creating a legacy that continues from year to year. The Board Members of SGNO are thankful to the members for their attendance to this year's program and to the speakers for their willingness to participate and create quality oral and poster presentations. We give thanks to the sponsors who provided funding and continue to maintain a positive relationship in making this 25th anniversary a great celebration. A Special thank you to our Chairperson - Michelle Brand and Sue McIntyre President for their leadership and commitment in bringing this year's event to a "Full Circle"! Let us all work together in the years to come and continue to build on the mission and goals of those who worked so diligently to keep the Society of Gynecologic Nurse Oncologists thriving! Susan
